Mary holds a Master’s of Social Work degree from the University of Michigan. Her social work portfolio includes crisis support and trauma-informed service delivery at minority serving institutions across the U.S. She earned her bachelor’s degree in critical social thought, focusing on the intersections of law, public health, and pressing social issues from Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Massachusetts.
So has provided direct crisis and legal supports to survivors of gender-based violence for 5+ years, reflecting her passion for providing violence education and trauma-informed services.
She previously collaborated with the Associate Director of Community Initiatives at the Center for Health & Research Transformation, where her work focused on promoting the Healthy Aging Collaborative, stakeholder engagement, community care hub development, and strategic planning initiatives.
So has also engaged in community-based research projects and program evaluation as a public health assistant to the Health Deputy at the Washtenaw County Health Department. Her contributions to the county’s immigrant health needs assessment resulted in a report outlining community needs and recommended strategies for enhancing equitable health service delivery and accessibility in collaboration with community partners.
With a focus on community change, So integrates reflexive understandings using a decolonial framework to promote lasting and impactful change at the interpersonal and social systems levels. So believes in the power of person-centered care, evidence-based modalities, and the intersection of theory and praxis to drive innovative practice and create thriving communities.
Mary is trained as a LENS Neurofeedback provider.
