Tanisha Andrews, BA, Graduate Student Counselor

Supervised by Dr. Jennifer Yarbrough, LPC-S

My journey toward becoming a counselor began with a desire to support my family in accessing mental health resources. This personal motivation led me to work in Special Education as a Collaborative Teacher. My time in Special Education solidified my passion for empowering children and adolescents to develop essential skills, such as coping strategies, breathing techniques, effective communication, and self-regulation, all within a supportive learning environment. I am currently pursuing this passion as a graduate student at Grand Canyon University, working towards a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with a specialization in Children and Adolescents.

My graduate studies have exposed me to a wide range of counseling approaches. Of these, I’ve found myself particularly drawn to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Person-centered therapy, and Solution-Focused therapy. These modalities resonate with my personal approach to working with clients, as they emphasize empowering individuals with practical tools, they can use both within and beyond the therapeutic setting to achieve lasting success.

Through this internship journey, I am dedicated to cultivating a comprehensive skill set and expanding my expertise to effectively support clients with diverse psychological needs. I can provide low-cost therapy services and can provide the EMDR Groundwork Program for those who wish to undergo EMDR therapy.
